Frequently Asked Questions

I am trying co copy a 533MB file from UNIX to the pronfs drives, but it keeps on timing out on different times during the copy. Do you have any suggestions?
I. Please try to use the command mount with different options: e.g. mount -o vers=3,proto=tcp,rsize=16384,wsize=16384 :/c /mnt (for using version 3 of the TCP protocol with read/write buffers size 16384) mount -o vers=3,proto=udp,rsize=16384,wsize=16384 :/c /mnt (for using version 3 of the UDP protocol with read/write buffers size 16384) etc. II. Please by using options rsize and wsize try to increase the buffers size. The RFC for the NFS protocol describes several digits for buffer size. The version 2 uses the 8k buffer size and because the NFS version 3 enlarges the buffer size up-to 32k you can try to play with the buffer size. Here some examples: 'mount -o vers=2 :/c /mnt' -> use NFS version 2. 'mount -o rsize=1024,wsize=1024 :/c /mnt' -> use read/write buffer size = 1024 bytes 'mount -o rsize=8192,wsize=8192 :/c /mnt' -> use read/write buffer size = 8192 bytes .
