Monitoring COM Ports


The COM-port Monitor Window

From the Statistics window, you can select a COM port and press the Monitor button to display the COM-port monitor window for the port. Then you can watch its activity and control data logging for it. You can display the COM-port monitor window also by pressing the Port monitor button form the Port Settings pane.

COM displays a serial port number for the connection channel.

IP displays an IP address for the connection channel.

Port displays a TCP/IP port for the connection channel.

Connect shows the time when the connection was established (i.e. the channel started).

Disconnect shows the time when the connection was terminated (i.e. the channel stopped).

Cancel closes the COM-port monitor dialog box and the COM port trace log-file.


The Log to file Box

By using the following radio buttons, you can choose one of trace options you prefer:

None

Specifies that no log-data will be stored in the log-file shown.

Create new <>.log for new connection

Specifies to create the new log-file shown to store new log-information for the connection channel seen under the header of the dialog box. The log-file name reflects the serial port number.

Append trace data to file <>.log

Specifies to append new log-information to the existing log-file shown for the connection channel seen under the header of the dialog box. The log-file name reflects the serial port number.


The Clear for New Connection Box

When enabled, Clear for new connection cleans up the STATUS and LOG fields when a new connection is established.

STATUS

In this field, information about the status of the connection channel is displayed.


The LOG Box

With the Display trace data in the LOG window check box enabled, log-information for the connection channel will be displayed in the LOG window below.
